  • Personally Identifiable Information (PII): For legacy users who purchased via ExtPay, we use your email address (collected by ExtPay) to verify and authenticate your Pro status. For new users, your license key (from Gumroad) is stored locally on your device to validate your purchase.
  • User Activity: The extension's core function requires it to handle user activity *only* when it is active. This includes:
    • Mouse Position & Clicks: To know which element you are hovering over or selecting for inspection.
    • Scroll Events: To ensure the measurement overlays and highlights stay in the correct position as you scroll.
    This data is used exclusively on your local computer, in real-time, to make the extension work. **It is never stored, logged, or transmitted.**
  • Website Content: To function as an inspector, the extension must handle website content *only* when you activate it. This includes:
    • DOM & CSS: Reading the page's structure and styles to display them to you in the side panel.
    • Text & Image URLs: To allow you to inspect and export assets and text content via the side panel.
    This data is only read from the page and displayed back to you. It is never stored, logged, or transmitted.
  • Payment Information: We do not collect or store any payment information. All payments are processed securely by our third-party partner, Gumroad.

Note: We prioritize your privacy and do not collect or store any information beyond what is necessary for the functionalities of our extension. We never resell your personal information to other services or companies.

2. How We Use Data

We use the collected data for the following purposes:

  • License Validation: We verify your license key with Gumroad's servers to confirm your purchase and ensure proper activation limits.
  • Feature Access: We use your license status to enable or disable premium features within the extension.
  • Usage Analytics: We track basic usage to improve the extension and provide appropriate upgrade prompts.

We share the collected data with:

  • Local Storage: Your license key and premium status are stored locally on your device using Chrome's secure storage APIs.
  • No Server Storage: We do not store any personal information on our servers. All data remains on your device or with Gumroad.

Screen Ruler uses the following third-party service:
